After a tick bite, it is important to remove the tick immediately. This can be done using tick tongs or tick tweezers. Because the tweezers close automatically, the tick can easily be pulled out of the skin. It is important that the tick is removed in its entirety. The tick's stomach contents must not remain in the human body, as this causes the infection. It is therefore important to irritate the tick as little as possible. So do not use a disinfectant before removing the tick. This can cause the tick to spit out its stomach contents, causing the bacteria to enter the lymph and bloodstream.
How to remove?
The tick should be removed as close to the skin as possible. Make sure that the tick is not crushed. The tick's rear end should not be squeezed. If the head remains, it may still contain salivary glands with possible pathogens. Remove the head anyway. If this is not possible, consult your GP.
Disinfect
After removing the tick, the area can be disinfected with alcohol, so do not rub the area with alcohol before removing it. The tick spits out its stomach contents when irritated by alcohol, for example. This can cause infection.
