Fighting ticks? Rovince is your expert
Scientists have recently concluded that it is not possible to combat ticks in the whole of the Netherlands. A tick bite can have major consequences, such as Lyme disease. This disease can leave lasting traces on people's health. This makes it very important to take precautions, because then you can successfully combat ticks. However, it is not possible to fully vaccinate yourself against Lyme disease to combat ticks. That is why it is important that you protect yourself against ticks when you go to a place that is sensitive to ticks. Ticks can be combated with, among other things: tick-resistant clothing and DEET.
When should I combat ticks?
You are susceptible to ticks during more activities than you think. At that moment, you are not busy combating ticks. You are already susceptible to ticks when you are walking, fishing, gardening and geocaching. However, many people are not aware of this. As a result, preventive measures are often not taken with regard to tick control, while they are certainly at risk. Some professions also carry an increased risk of tick bites, such as gardeners and forest rangers. People with these professions are regularly exposed to an environment with many ticks. Ticks are often found in parks, forests, bushes and other nature reserves. It is therefore important that you protect yourself against ticks in these areas as a preventive measure by wearing tick-repellent products. Therefore, cover your body well with tick-repellent clothing. It is also wise to smear the uncovered parts of your body with insect repellents that contain DEET. In any case, it is recommended to regularly check yourself for tick bites if you have been in a nature reserve. The fact is that the longer the tick is carried, the more severe the consequences are. The diseases that ticks carry nest in your body.
You've been bitten...
Despite all these precautions with regard to tick control, you have still been bitten by a tick. How do you apply tick control then? First of all, it is important to know when you were bitten. If you have seen a red spot develop a few weeks after the bite, you should go to the doctor. If the tick control went well, but you have doubts, then it is still wise to go to your doctor. A red circle can eventually result in Lyme disease. This can be cured well with medication if you go to the doctor in time. That is why it is always recommended to consult a doctor when in doubt.
The tick can be removed with special tweezers. Carefully remove the tick from your skin. Do not crush the tick. Once you have removed the tick, it is important to disinfect your skin properly. Do not do this beforehand, because then the tick control will not be effective and there is a greater chance that diseases will be transmitted. Be careful when removing the tick. The tick must be removed in its entirety, because otherwise pathogens can still be transmitted. Therefore, check the area carefully after removal.
Combating ticks prevents uncertainty
If you are not sure or not sure whether the tick has been completely removed, have the area checked by your doctor. Small particles may remain that are sometimes not visible to the naked eye. For example, a leg of a larva or nymph. These are still very small, because the tick is then in the early stages of its life. However, a (part of) a nymph can already cause serious diseases in humans. In fact, nymphs transmit the most diseases. In this growth stage, ticks are still very small and therefore not noticeable. This means that the tick stays on longer, giving them enough time to consume a full blood meal. Even though a tick has not yet consumed a blood meal in the larval stage, they can still transmit diseases. The larvae, which have just hatched from the egg, are already able to transmit the Borrelia bacteria Miyamotoi and Afzelii to humans and animals.
