Tick bite and symptoms

Tick bite and symptoms

Most tick bites occur in the summer. The tick lives in forests, bushes, grass, dunes, heathland and parks. During a walk in nature or while working in the garden, the chance of a tick bite is high. It is therefore advisable to check your body thoroughly afterwards for a possible bite.

Remove immediately

A tick bite is not always without consequences. Because the tick carries bacteria, one can become ill from a tick bite. Lyme disease is the best known of these. It is important to remove the tick in its entirety immediately after the bite. This can be done with the help of tick tweezers, tick tongs or a tick spoon. It is important not to treat the area before removing the tick with alcohol.

Symptoms

A tick bite is not painful. This also ensures that you do not notice anything. The red spot that occurs with a bite does not grow larger than two centimeters and disappears after two weeks. A recognizable symptom of a tick bite is a red spot that forms around the place where the bite occurs. Such a red spot is also called an erythema migrans. Symptoms that can be felt include experiencing a headache, getting a fever, a stiff neck, or getting muscle pain. If these initial symptoms are ignored, a tick bite can lead to Lyme disease, the number one tick-borne disease.
